Cuba's Sugar Harvest Disappoints

30 May 2012

CUBA - Cuba's 2011-2012 sugar harvest grew by 16 per cent on the previous year, however results were deemed insufficient due to a disappointing growing season.

Vice Presidents, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura and Marino Murillo have complained about the deficiencies in sugar production.

The latest harvest fell short by 68,000 tons of sugar, and though production grew by 16 per cent over the previous year, the Cuban government claim the modest results are insufficient for the economic progress the country requires.

Operations have been put in place to encourage better management, adopt new technologies and generate exports to finance Cuba's own operations.
