Colombia Reduce Corn Imports

27 June 2012

COLOMBIA - Colombia has declined maize imports by 14 per cent to meet domestic consumption needs, as foreign grain purchasing declines.

Colombia is focussing it's efforts on providing quality corn for domestic consumption as a strategy to strengthen food security in the country.

Maize production in Colombia has increased by almost 35 per cent throughout January and February this year.

Colombia plans to increase corn hectares to 250,000 by 2014, producing 500,000 tons for domestic production.
