Ukraine Corn Exports on the Rise

03 July 2012
U.S. Grains Council

UKRAINE - Ukraine's corn exports for the October-September marketing year as reported by the State Customs Committee of the Ukraine are on the rise, reports the US Grains Council.

This week's U.S. Grains Council Chart of the Week shows Ukraine's corn exports for the October-September marketing year as reported by the State Customs Committee of the Ukraine.

Showing sales for the first six months of the current marketing year (2011/2012), Ukraine's exports of corn have increased significantly, especially to the North Africa markets, keeping U.S. exporters from entering these markets consistently.

While Ukraine's corn exports were fairly stable from 2008/2009 to 2010/2011, exports in the current year show a dramatic increase. Current U.S. Department of Agriculture projections for 2011/2012 is 14 million metric tons (551 million bushels) compared with 9 million tons (354 million bushels) already reported by Ukraine in just the first six months of the marketing year.

Ukraine has increased exports in North Africa, the Middle East and Europe, while also gaining first-time significant sales to Asia. Ukraine's corn exports to Former Soviet Union (FSU) countries have disappeared.
