Vietnam Rice Production Revised Upwards
16 July 2012VIETNAM - Paddy rice production in Vietnam has been revised upwards for market year (MY) 2011/2012 to 42.771 million tons.
This is 577,000 tons higher than that of MY 2010/2011, due to the higher estimated production of the Spring and Autumn crops in the Mekong River Delta (MRD) region.
The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) assumes average Winter crop production. The newly revised number has an increase of 92,000 tons of paddy rice compared to FAS’s last estimate in May 2012.
FAS also increases the forecast for total paddy rice production for MY 2012/2013 from 42.470 million tons to 43.002 million tons.
