German Minister Calls for E10 Rethink

22 August 2012

GERMANY - Dirk Niebel, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development has written to Helmut Lamp, Director of the German Bioenergy Association advising that the E10 blending mandate should be reconsidered, due to rising corn prices.

Corn prices have been pushed higher and higher as a result of on-going drought throughout many parts of the world.

Mr Niebel has asked that to 'calm the markets', the E10 ethanol blending mandate should be reconsidered to free up more corn for food production.

Mr Niebel writes: "In the present situation, we must do everything in our power to calm the markets and bring corn prices back to an acceptable development path."
