Cotton Purchased by Cotton Corporation of India

INDIA - The Ministry of Textiles has issued directions to the Cotton Corporation of India for a staggered procurement plan with mandi arrivals, regulated within capacity limits, for farmers to get timely and remunerative prices.

The mandi operations plan was put in place with the following objectives:

  • to ensure timely payments to the farmers;
  • need for physical verification of stocks of seed kapas in notified mandis;
  • to make procurement coterminous with the storage space available;
  • tighter out-turn verification and need for systemic checks to avoid pilferages;
  • timely documentation by coordination between Cotton Corporation of India and APMCs;
  • giving field officials adequate time for conducting transparent procurement and
  • to put adequate fire prevention measures in place.

The mandi operations plan was operationalised by Cotton Corporation of India in consultation with State Government of Andhra Pradesh.
