Irrigation Improvement to Boost Grain Harvest

18 April 2013

UKRAINE - Work which will help restore irrigation should help boost grain harvests by 20 million tons.

The restoration project is planned for four to five years to restore the network of irrigation in about 3.5 million hectares.

This will involve state financial assistance and investment funds, announced the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Mykola Prysiazhniuk.

"Irrigation - a strategic goal for our country. After all, we are in the zone of risky agriculture," said Mykola Prysiazhniuk.

"Our task is to give farmers cheap water. Farmers should receive reasonable cost water for irrigation in order to improve the performance of their own harvest," said Mykola Prysiazhniuk.
