Difference Between Domestic, Foreign Sugar Prices Decreasing

13 September 2013

BRAZIL - Last week, the foreign crystal sugar prices were more profitable than domestic for the seventh consecutive period.

According to calculations by Cepea, on the week starting 12 August, foreign sales remunerated 11.8 per cent more than domestic.

As for the São Paulo market, sugar has benefited from reduced supply and increased interest by shipments. Buyers, who were postponing purchases for weeks returned to the market.

Thus, even with high prices, the volume of negotiations registered by Cepea was high.

On Monday 9, the sugar index was between 130-180 and closed at R$44.68/bag of 50 kg, an increase of 1.04 per cent compared the week earlier.
