India Cotton Arrivals Touch 38.3 Million Bales during 2013-14 Season

INDIA - Cotton production in the country has been recorded at 38.3 million bales of 170 bales each during the 2013-14 season till September, writes Jagdish Kumar.

During the same season last year, cotton arrivals were recorded at 38.1 million bales, Cotton Association of India (CAI) said in statement.

Looking on the arrivals for the year 2013-14, the association has pegged estimated total cotton supply at 44.2 million bales.

CAI also said that while the domestic consumption is estimated at 29.5 million bales thus leaving an available surplus of 14.7 million bales.

About 90 per cent of the total estimated crop for the season has already arrived in the market signifying that the 2013-14 cotton season is coming to an end, CAI said.

As on April 2014, cotton arrivals from Gujarat was the highest at 10.1 million bales, followed by Mahrashtra with 8.0 million bales, cotton arrivals from Andhra Pradesh was recorded at 6.4 million bales, Haryana arrivals was recorded at 2.0 million bales and arrivals from Madhya Pradesh was 1.9 million bales, the CAI report adds.
