ANALYSIS - Now is the time to start planning your weed management program for next year, and there's still time before (or even during) harvest to walk your fields and determine which weed species have become tolerant to your herbicide program, reports Sarah Mikesell, senior editor.
Dr. Ed Anderson, Director of Research at the Iowa Soybean Association, explains what you can do if weed resistance crops up in your field.
Learning from growers in the South, farmers should take a proactive, integrated approach with weed management including:
- Crop rotation
- Chemistry stewardship - active ingredient rotation
- Scout fields to understand what weeds are a problem in your specific fields
- Use of cover crops
Anderson spoke as part of a weed management panel discussion held by Bayer CropScience at the 2014 Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa, USA. To view more coverage of the panel discussion, click here.Photo courtesy of Purdue University.
