INDIA - India’s rabi crop sowing has recorded a drop till January 23, 2015 at 58.60 million hectares, as per rabi crops data released by directorate of economics and statistics, Indian agriculture ministry.
During the same period last year, rabi crop sowing was at 62.48 million hectares, the data adds.
Wheat`s sowing area was also down at 30.56 million hectares, as compared to last year’s 31.36 million hectares.
The area under sowing of total coarse cereals was recorded at 5.64 million hectares, as compared to last year’s 5.96 million hectares, whereas, area under sowing of gram was down to 8.19 million hectares, against the last year’s figure of 9.86 million hectares.
Area coverage under total pulses was recorded at 13.35 million hectares while the last year’s sowing area coverage was at 15 million hectares.
Similarly sowing area under total oilseeds was also down at 7.84 million hectares, as compared to 8.69 million hectares last year, the data adds.
