UK Milling Premium Still Near this Season’s Low22 April 2015
UK - The UK ex-farm full-spec bread wheat milling premium continues to sit around its lowest level this season, increasing only slightly last week after dipping below £30/t for the first time in 2014/15 in the previous week (w/e 9-Apr).
However, it is important to look at the milling wheat market in its own right, rather than looking to the milling premium for market signals – as the milling premium is affected by movements in both the milling wheat price and the feed base.
Feed wheat prices currently remain firmer than at the beginning of the season. Although we are currently seeing the smallest milling premium so far this season, milling wheat values themselves are not at their lowest levels.
When considering the performance of your marketing strategy, it’s important that the feed base price as well as the milling price are both considered separately.
