Russia to Harvest 85 Million Tonnes of Grain in 2011

RUSSIA - Grain production in 2011 is expected to reach the level of 85 million tonnes, according to AgriMarket.Info.
Despite the anomaly weather conditions and due to government support, in 2010 the general grain production in Russia totaled 60.3 mln tonnes in clean weight.
This figure is down 35 per cent compared to the level of 2009, but it is a sufficient volume for the domestic demands satisfaction, said Elena Skrynnik, the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
According to the Ministry forecasts, as of July 1, 2011, grain stocks are expected at the level of 14 million tonnes. The country harvested record volumes of rice and soybean â€" over 1.1 million tonnes and 1.2 million tonnes, respectively.
Taking into account winter crops sowing areas decreased by 16 per cent - the general sowing areas totaled 15.5 million ha - compared to the last year's level. In 2011 Russian agricultural producers will have to increase spring crops sowing areas till 30 million ha.
