Thai Sugar Production Headed for Record

THAILAND - Sugar production in Thailand is now past its peak but daily production rates are still considerably above last year's.

Indeed signs are that 2010/11 production might be higher than in record year 2007/08 when 8.1 mln tonnes, raw value, were produced, reports agra-net.com.

In the period ending March 14, production had reached 7.179 million tonnes, raw value, compared with 6.531 million produced by the same date last year. Of the total 2.344 million tonnes were white sugar (2.497 million).

The cane crush reached 67.832 million tonnes compared with 63.425 million in 2009/10 giving an average extraction rate of 10.58 per cent compared with 10.30 per cent last season.

Finally, molasses production has reached 2.839 million tonnes compared with 2.635 million in 2009/10.
