Russian Grain Harvest Increasing

RUSSIA - The latest figures from the Russian Agriculture ministry show that 13.3 million hectares - about a third of the planted area of the Tyumen region of the Urals - has been harvested, producing 39.8 million tonnes of grain.
In the Southern Federal District, an area of about 5.6 million hectares (79 per cent of the planted area), saw a harvest of about 18.5 million tonnes of grain.
In the North Caucasus Federal District an area of 2.3 million hectares of cereals (82 per cent of the planted area), saw a harvest about 8.5 million tonnes of grain.
The Central Federal District the area about 3.2 million hectares of cereals (43 per cent of the planted area), had a harvest about 8.3 million tonnes of grain.
In the Volga Federal District an area of more than 2.1 million hectares (17 per cent of the planted area), produced a harvest of more than 4.3 million tonnes of grain.
In the Far Eastern Federal District grains and legumes produced from an area of 40,800 hectares (12 per cent of the planted area), came to 87.1 tonnes.
Wheat in the whole country from an area of over 9.2 million hectares (36 per cent of the planted area) has so far reached more than 30.3 million tonnes of grain.
Barley from an area of more than 2.0 million hectares (26 per cent of the forecast planted area), has reached more than 5.4 million tonnes of grain.
Winter and spring oilseed rape from an area of 157,200 hectares (17 per cent of the planted area), came to 280,700 tonnes of milled oilseed rape crop at 17.9 kg / ha.
In the South Federal District (Krasnodar Territory) harvesting has started on sugar beet and so afr 1,100 hectares ohas been harvested.
According to the general ministry figures the yield per hectare across the region has risen on last year's figures.
