1,000 Tons Wheat Seed Imported from Russia to Armenia

RUSSIA & ARMENIA - Over 1.1 thousand tons of high-quality wheat seeds of the sort "Elite" were imported from Russia to Armenia, said the press-service of the Armenian government.
During unloading of wagons with wheat in the railway station "Masis" Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan was present. He listened to the professional opinion of their specialists of agrarian sphere and beneficiaries of wheat quality.
According to ARKA News, specialists said that last year from 950 tons of seven types of wheat 220,000 tons of wheat was received instead of 183,000 tons.
The received 2,900 tons of seeds of first reproduction will be distributed to beneficiaries having land plots of 0.4 to 3 ha reaching to 9,000 to 10,000.
This year, compared to the last year, the import price per kilo of seeds was reduced. Particularly, in 2010 wheat seeds were imported from Russia by the price equivalent to $1. This year their price was 75 cents.
The seeds of the sort "Elite" are imported to Armenia already the second year in the frames of the program of seed development for 2010-2014 developed by the Armenian Agriculture Ministry and approved by the government.
In 2010 Armenia recorded unprecedented decline in agriculture in the amount of 12.5 per cent. In 2010 the country, the first time in the last seven years imported a large volume of seeds with the purpose of support to seed growing in the country and increase of productivity of wheat.
