According to the latest USDA crop progress report, corn silking reached 86 per cent across 18 states this week, 27 per cent higher than the 5-year average.

Drought stress is clearly having a huge impact on corn condition across the three "I" states, particularly Illinois and Indiana, with both states reporting only seven and six per cent of corn in 'good' condition, respectively. In Illinois, zero corn is considered 'excellent'.

Missouri corn also appears to be suffering drought stress, with a huge 48 per cent of corn considered to be in 'very poor' condition and only one per cent in 'excellent' condition.

22 per cent of corn has reached dough stage, a 10 per cent increase on last week and way above the nine per cent 5-year average.

Overall soybean blooming is at 79 per cent, 19 per cent higher than the 5-year average. Soybeans are not setting pods in all 18 states.

Soybean condition is favourable in Mississippi, with 21 per cent considered in 'excellent' condition. Overall only four per cent is classed as in 'excellent' condition, with 27 per cent considered 'good' and 35 per cent classed as either 'poor' or 'very poor'.
