NFU Highlights UK Farming Needs Before Budget

29 February 2012

UK - The NFU has written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer outlining what we’d like to see in the Budget next month.

In their submission, the NFU has highlighted the need to increase food production sustainably, while adapting to climate change and contributing to greenhouse gas mitigation.

That will require both investment and the best use of resources. With that in mind the NFU outlined their opposition to a reduction in the Annual Investment Allowance, and called for a rethink on capital allowances where reservoirs are concerned.

The NFU also made clear the burden of Empty Business Property Rates and the difficulties of mandatory 'real time' online filing for PAYE.

Elsewhere, there's a wider call for simplification of the tax reporting system and a promise to contribute fully to a consultation about the use of red diesel for snow clearance and during extreme weather.
