Darling Downs Farmers Desperate for Rain
19 September 2012AUSTRALIA - Farmers on Queensland's Darling Downs are hoping for rain to help finish off their pulse and cereal crops.
Agronomist Andrew Johnston says the good start to winter meant farmers double-cropped, but a dry spell has left them looking for storms, reports
ABCRural.
He says yields will suffer if rain doesn't fall in the next fortnight, with losses of 40 to 50 per cent on some farms.
"It has really hit the wall in the last couple of weeks with these hot windy days we traditionally get in September," he said.
"We're pretty desperate for rainfall now, that's for sure."
