Government Prepares Rp 3.7 Mt/ha Compensation Due to Drought

INDONESIA - The government has set up a compensation fund for farmers who had their land parched by drought.

Of these funds, $2.6 million for the cost of cultivation and Rp. 1.1 million to help fertiliser. As stated by the Minister of Agriculture, Dr Ir. Suswono, MMA during a working visit in the village of Banjareja Kuwarasan, Kebumen, Central Java.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, farmers will suffer if 75 per cent of harvested land failed. "Farmers whose lands are severely damaged (75 per cent of its land is crop failure) will receive compensation from the Government," he said.

Agriculture compensation will be given directly to the account of the farmer.

In addition to providing compensation fund, the government also made several attempts to overcome the disruption of domestic food production.
