Agriculture Chief Urges Batangas Sugar Planters to be More Competitive

PHILIPPINES - Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala has urged Batangas sugarcane farmers to be more cost-efficient and competitive through farm mechanisation and adoption of organic farming technologies, during the 60th general assembly of the Batangas Sugar Planters’ Cooperative Marketing Associations, Inc. (BSPCMA), in Balayan, Batangas.

Mr Alcala stressed that the DA will support the establishment of an organic fertiliser manufacturing facility in partnership with the BSPMCA and local government units.

During the conference, DA raffled off various farm equipment, inputs and livestock animals.

Joining him at the conference was Balayan Mayor Emmanuel Fronda, Batangas 1st District Representative Tomas Apacible, DA Region 4-B Director Vilma Dimaculangan, DA-Sugar Regulatory Administration Director Lito Sandoval of the Sugar Regulatory Administration, and BSPCMA chairman Danilo Zuñiga.
