Croatia Barley Unlikely to Meet Domestic Demand

06 March 2013

CROATIA - Market year (MY) 2013/2014 (July/June) barley area is forecast at 50,000 hectares (ha) or about the same as last year.

Production is forecast at 195,000 million tonnes (MT), which will not meet domestic demand; thus imports will likely reach 25,000 MT.

MY 2013/2014 (July/June) wheat area is forecast at 185,000 ha.

Total production is forecast at about 950,000 MT.

Under this scenario, Croatia would have around 400,000 MT of wheat for export.

MY 2013/2014 (October/September) corn area is forecast at 310,000 ha.

Total production is expected to be reach close to two million MT, creating a surplus of about 250,000 MT for potential export.
