Provincial Government Bolsters Corn Growers Grouping

07 October 2013

PHILIPPINES - The provincial government recently convened various groups of corn growers and producers in Pampanga in a bid to boost the comprehensive and integrated delivery of farm assistance to the sector.

During the meeting, Governor Lilia Pineda urged attendees to make their groups active and form a provincial federation so that they can easily have access to government interventions such as farm inputs, farm mechanisation, and crop insurance, reports PIA.

In addition, this will also provide farmers with a support group to rely to when they experience problems or difficulties in terms of production.

“The formulation of the grouping is meant to ensure that our farmers are protected from those who buy their products at unreasonable prices,” Pineda explained.

She also introduced to them three board members who will be of big help in their sector.

They are Committee on Trade and Industry chair Anthony Joseph Torres, Committee on Agriculture chair Ferdinand Labung, and Committee on Agriculture vice chair Rosve Henson.

The governor also revealed that they are currently coordinating with the Land Bank of the Philippines in coming up with flexible loan programs for Kapampangan farmers.
