Total Rice Area, Production for Bangladesh Revised Down

BANGLADESH - For marketing year (MY) 2014/15 (May to April), Post’s estimate for total rice area and production is revised down to 11.8 million hectares and 34.6 million tons on lower Boro rice acreage.

Post’s MY 2013/14 and MY 2014/15 (July to June) wheat production forecasts are unchanged at 1.28 and 1.3 million tons assuming normal weather conditions.

The MY 2014/15 rice import forecast is raised to 500,000 tons on less rice production, population growth, and expectations of competitive import prices.

For MY 2014/15, Post’s wheat import forecast remains unchanged at 3.3 million tons on expectations of low international wheat prices.
