Good Prospects for Haiti Crops

18 August 2014

HAITI - Harvesting of the 2014 main season crops is currently underway and will be concluded by the end of September.

After below-average precipitations at the beginning of the season, between April and May, remote sensing data shows a recovery in rains since the last dekad of May, which benefited crop development in the major producing areas of the country.

Assuming normal weather conditions continue during the remainder of the year, as well as an average secondary season rice crop, to be harvested by December, FAO’s latest forecasts point to an aggregate 2014 cereal production of 596 000 tonnes, 3 per cent up from last year’s record level.
