India’s Food Grain Output Estimated at 264.77 Million Tonnes

INDIA - India’s fourth advance estimates of food grain production for 2013-14 has been pegged at 264.77 million tonnes as on 14 August, 2014, the Indian ministry of agriculture said in a statement recently.

The food grain production for the last fiscal year 2012-13 produced 257.13 million tonnes, the statement adds.

As per an estimate, rice output is estimated at 106.54 million tonnes, wheat has been estimated at 9591 million tonnes.

Groundnut production is pegged at an all time high of 9.67 million tonnes, whereas pulses production is estimated at record 19.27 million tonnes.

Production of coarse cereals has been estimated at 43.05 million tonnes, maize at 24.35 million tonnes, tur estimated at 3.29 million tonnes, urad at 1.51 million tonnes, moong at 1.50 million tonnes, gram at 9.88 million tonnes, the statement adds.

Estimated output of oilseeds has been estimated at 32.87 million tonnes and soyabean at 11.98 million tonnes, whereas rapeseed & mustard has been pegged at 7.96 million tonnes.

Cotton output has been 36.59 million bales (of 170 kg each) and sugarcane at 350.02 million tonnes.
