Tunisia Grain Crop Update 2010

22 September 2010
USDA Foreign Agricultural Service

TUNISIA - Tunisia cereal production for 2009/2010 is estimated at 1.1 million metric tonnes, about 56 per cent lower than cereal production in the 2008/2009 campaign.

The GOT has announced that it is planning to import about 2 million MT of grain in MY 2010.

The US wheat, barley and corn exports made a recent come-back in the Tunisia market as result of increased local demand and lack of export supplies from Black Sea countries, the main grain exporter to the Tunisian market in recent years.

Shipments of US corn, totaling 143,500 MT so far in 2010, have boosted US market share in the Tunisian market to almost 40 per cent.
