Harvest Could Damage Roads

12 November 2010

AUSTRALIA – Officials in Loddon Shire have said that they are concerned over the damage to roads during this year's harvest.

The region has been particularly badly hit by road deterioration as a result of recent heavy rain, causing the council to suspend capital works programmes in order to divert resources to fixing the infrastructure, ABC News reported.

Mayor Gavan Holt said that the prospect of a good harvest, which would normally be welcomed by all members of the community, could have a negative impact in terms of the road conditions.

He explained: "Provided we keep on top of these locusts and there's not rain damage, we could have a fantastic harvest here. That's going to put a greater quantity of grain trucks on our roads, which is going to compound the situation."
