UK Harvest 2011 – Forecast Survey

20 May 2011

UK - Following the dry weather during the first four months of 2011, which has continued into the first half of May, many NFU members have grown concerned about the potential impact on yields at harvest.

This has been particularly the case in the East of the country.

The NFU recognises that some damage has already been done to some crops – and appreciates the difficulties this might cause the arable sector later in the year in those regions that have been driest.

To help teh NFU estimate the potential impact, and to communicate the situation as members see it, the union is inviting arable farmers in the worst-affected parts of the country to complete a short survey.

With sufficient data, this will be collated and published in June ahead of the onset of harvest to provide as robust an assessment as possible of the likely harvest situation on the ground.
