USDA GAIN Report - Oilseeds, Cotton, Sugar, Grain and Feed

TH4105 – Export prices for most grades of white rice remained unchanged. The government sold 203,000 metric tons of rice stocks as expected by traders last week. The bids were 8-20 percent below the market prices.

Export prices of most grades of white rice remained unchanged from the previous week, except for fragrant rice prices which further declined slightly as new supplies are coming onto the market. On October 28, 2014, the government announced that 18 millers and exporters were awarded a total of 203,000 metric tons out of the total the public tender for 207,899 metric tons of old-crop white and broken rice. The value of the awards was 1,930 million baht ($60 million). The bids (Table 2) were reportedly 8 percent below market prices for 5 percent grade white rice and 20 percent for broken white rice. The government plans to issue another public tender in November 2014. However, the detail of the tender has not been finalized yet

Rice Export Update

Unofficial preliminary rice exports (excluding premium white and fragrant rice) for October 27 – November 2, 2014 totaled 105,603 metric tons, down 5,819 metric tons from the previous week and down 15,582 metric tons from the four-week moving average of 121,185 metric tons (Table 3). Rice exports from January 1 – November 2, 2014, totaled 4,467,988 metric tons, up 61 percent from the same period last year.
