USDA GAIN Report - Oilseeds, Cotton, Sugar, Grain and Feed

TH4126 – Export prices declined 1 percent as the government will issue a tender for around 400,000 metric tons on December 22.

Market Tone

Export prices declined around 1 percent from the previous week in anticipation of the sales of government rice stocks. The government announced that it would issue a public tender for 398,242 metric tons (Table 2) on December 22, 2014. The tender will mainly consist of broken white rice from MY2011/12 and MY2012/13 (approximately 80 percent of total tender). Traders expect that exporters who are executing the shipments to the Philippines under the 300,000 metric ton government-to-government contract (25% grade white rice) will participate in the tender. Presently (as of December 16, 2014), average farm-gate prices of white rice and fragrant rice paddy have declined approximately 3 percent from the same period last year to around 7,860 baht per metric tons ($238/MT) and 13,600 baht per metric tons ($412/MT), respectively.

Rice Export Update

Unofficial preliminary rice exports (excluding premium white and fragrant rice) for December 8-14, 2014 totaled 107,771 metric tons, down 5,601 metric tons from the previous week and down 2,642 metric tons from the four-week moving average of 110,413 metric tons (Table 3). Rice exports from January 1 – December 14, 2014, totaled 5,100,208 metric tons, up 61 percent from the same period last year.
